如何提高学生的交流能力？

I’m a teacher. I want to know how we can make students master basic English knowledge and at the same time improve their communication abilities.
我是个教师。我想知道如何使学生掌握基础英语知识，同时又提高他们的交流能力。
Communication means doing things through language. What sorts of things? It means:
 conducting transactions (= doing business in a foreign language) like changing money at a bank, ordering a meal at a restaurant, etc.
 interaction (= exchanging information, e.g. about everyday life)
 argument (= exchanging ideas)
It follows that when you are teaching students to communicate, you should be putting them into situations where they will be required to practise any one of the areas listed above. Basic English knowledge (by which I imagine you mean grammar and vocabulary) are the support system necessary to communicate successfully. But grammar and vocabulary are the essential means by which we communicate. Emphasize communication and everything else will follow.
交流的意思是通过语言做事情。什么样的事情呢?含义是：
 进行交易，如在银行换钱，在餐厅点菜，等等
 交互活动(=交换信息，如有关日常生活的信息)
 辩论(=交流看法)
因此，你在教学生交流时，应该把他们放在需要他们交流以上所列出的一个领域的场景中。基础英语知识(我想你指的是语法和词汇)是进行成功交流的必要基础系统。而语法和词汇是我们交流的要素。重视交流，所有的其他方面也就会随之进步。
